Local Businesses Rally Around Marietti Family
EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — A morning cup of coffee is taking on a deeper meaning across El Dorado County this week as local coffee shops, bakeries and cafes join a fundraiser benefiting the family of Correctional Officer Ryan Marietti.
Organized by the Sheriff’s Posse of El Dorado County, the fundraiser runs through Saturday afternoon, Sept. 26, with participating businesses throughout the county and into South Lake Tahoe inviting customers to take part.
The Sheriff’s Posse is a volunteer organization established to support members of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and their families during times of need. County records have previously described the Posse as a charitable organization whose purpose includes raising funds to assist sheriff’s officers and their families.
For residents who knew Marietti, the fundraiser is about more than financial assistance. It is an opportunity to support a local family following the sudden loss of a young man who grew up in the community.
A Young Life Dedicated to Service
Marietti died in the early morning hours of Aug. 28 in a solo-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Strawberry. He was off duty at the time.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Authorities have said the collision occurred shortly after 4 a.m., and investigators had not determined whether speed or DUI was a factor.
Marietti was a 2023 graduate of Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs. Before becoming a correctional officer, he was a member of El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 457, where he participated on the post’s competition team.
He joined the Sheriff’s Office in December 2024 and worked at both the Placerville and South Lake Tahoe jails.
The Sheriff’s Office said Marietti demonstrated a strong work ethic, professionalism and a desire to build a career in public service.
“Ryan will be greatly missed—not only by his family and friends, but by his EDSO family and the community he proudly chose to serve,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
The agency concluded its memorial statement with a simple tribute:
“Ryan Marietti, J2258, always speak his name.”

The geographic reach of the fundraiser mirrors Marietti’s own connection to the county. His work took him from the Placerville Jail to the South Lake Tahoe Jail, while his earlier involvement with the Sheriff’s Explorer program connected him to El Dorado County law enforcement before he officially joined the department.
Community Support in a Time of Loss
The Sheriff’s Posse describes its mission as providing support, financial assistance and other help to Sheriff’s Office members and their families during difficult times. Its stated goal includes providing immediate financial assistance to families following the death of an officer.
For El Dorado County residents, participating can be as simple as stopping for coffee, breakfast or a pastry at one of the participating businesses before the fundraiser ends Saturday afternoon.
There is no replacing a son, friend, colleague or community member. But in a county where personal connections often run deep, residents have a familiar way to say they remember.
Ryan Marietti grew up here. He went to school here. He entered public service here.
Now, businesses and residents across the region are coming together to help his family.
