DIAMOND SPRINGS, Calif. (April 28, 2025) — El Dorado County is set to install a key segment of the El Dorado Trail this week, with the placement of a prefabricated pedestrian and bicycle overcrossing bridge over Missouri Flat Road. To ensure public safety during the installation, Missouri Flat Road will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, through 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, between Old Depot Road and Golden Center Drive. [Near Walmart]

The overcrossing is part of the El Dorado Trail – Missouri Flat Road Bike/Pedestrian Overcrossing Project, which aims to close a critical gap in the trail network by providing a safe, grade-separated crossing over the busy roadway. Once completed, the bridge will connect existing Class I bike path segments within the Sacramento-Placerville Transportation Corridor, enhancing non-motorized transportation options in the region.

“This project will provide a direct, non-motorized connection to the existing 2.7-mile paved segment of the El Dorado Trail between Missouri Flat Road and Forni Road and the unimproved section south and west of Missouri Flat Road,” according to the El Dorado County Transportation Commission’s March 2025 Project Monitoring Report.

The overnight closure is necessary to accommodate the use of a crane to lift and place the steel truss bridge sections, which have been delivered to the site via trailer. Detours will be in place, directing motorists to use Forni Road and Enterprise Drive during the closure period. Changeable message signs have been posted to inform drivers of the upcoming closure.

Construction on the overcrossing began in August 2024 and is anticipated to be completed by spring 2025. The project is funded through a combination of federal, state, and local sources, including the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ), Transportation Development Act (TDA) funds, and the Active Transportation Program (ATP). The total project cost is estimated at $7.35 million.

For more information on the project and the upcoming road closure, residents can visit the El Dorado County website at www.eldoradocounty.ca.gov or contact the County’s Transportation main line at (530) 621-5900 (select Option 3 for Engineering).
