Drozd after pleading guilty to <strong data-start=\"1980\" data-end=\"2053\">tampering with a consumer product and mail theft by a postal employee<\/strong>, according to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Eastern District of California.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2174\" data-end=\"2514\">Wallace&#8217;s case is particularly significant because the stolen medications were not simply removed from the mail. Federal prosecutors said she deliberately altered packages containing prescription narcotics and returned them to the postal system, leaving veterans to receive and use medication that was not what their doctors had prescribed.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"xrmy74\" data-start=\"2516\" data-end=\"2562\">Veterans\u2019 medication specifically targeted<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2564\" data-end=\"2746\">According to court documents cited by federal prosecutors, Wallace used her position with the Postal Service to access packages containing prescription medications and vape products.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"2748\" data-end=\"3022\">Prosecutors said she <strong data-start=\"2769\" data-end=\"2847\">intentionally targeted packages sent by the Department of Veterans Affairs<\/strong> because those parcels generally contained narcotic medications. Wallace would cut into the packages, open bottles containing prescription narcotics and remove the medication.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3024\" data-end=\"3234\">She then replaced the stolen medication with over-the-counter drugs, retaped the packages and placed them back into the mail stream for delivery to the intended recipients.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3236\" data-end=\"3291\">The consequences extended well beyond the theft itself.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3293\" data-end=\"3478\">Federal authorities said multiple veteran recipients consumed the tampered medication, putting them at risk of injury because they were taking drugs that had been incorrectly dispensed.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3480\" data-end=\"3702\">The U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office reported that victims experienced <strong data-start=\"3541\" data-end=\"3618\">extreme pain, increased agitation, anger and other mental health symptoms<\/strong> after the medication was stolen and replaced.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3704\" data-end=\"3878\">The case illustrates the particular danger posed when a person with authorized access to the nation&#8217;s mail system uses that access to interfere with prescription medications.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"1ufiyz\" data-start=\"3880\" data-end=\"3935\">Investigation involved Postal Service and VA police<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"3937\" data-end=\"4093\">The investigation was conducted jointly by the <strong data-start=\"3984\" data-end=\"4092\">U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General and the Department of Veterans Affairs Police Department<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4095\" data-end=\"4160\">Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole Moody prosecuted the case.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4162\" data-end=\"4281\">Wallace pleaded guilty on April 4, 2026, according to the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4283\" data-end=\"4562\">The case had previously identified Wallace as a resident of Pollock Pines, in El Dorado County, when she entered her guilty plea in April. The Department of Justice&#8217;s sentencing announcement Monday identified her as a resident of Fort Bragg.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4564\" data-end=\"4754\">That distinction is relevant locally: <strong data-start=\"4602\" data-end=\"4754\">Wallace&#8217;s connection to El Dorado County stems from her former employment with the Postal Service in Placerville, rather than her current residence.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"auto\" data-section-id=\"11tnfpm\" data-start=\"4756\" data-end=\"4779\">Federal prosecution<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4781\" data-end=\"4976\">Wallace&#8217;s conviction was handled in U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of California. The tampering and mail-theft charges arose from conduct involving her position as a postal employee.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4978\" data-end=\"5256\">The federal prosecution also underscores that mail theft by a postal employee can carry consequences beyond a local criminal case.
