EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. \u2014<\/strong> An El Dorado Hills technology company developing artificial intelligence computing technology is restructuring its business, a move that will eliminate approximately 26% of its workforce while directing more money toward areas management believes offer stronger growth potential.<\/p>\n

Blaize Holdings Inc., headquartered at 4659 Golden Foothill Parkway in El Dorado Hills, announced the restructuring Sept. 30. The company said the plan includes a reduction in force and other operational-efficiency measures designed to reduce expenses and concentrate its resources on more profitable business lines.<\/p>\n

The company expects the restructuring to generate approximately $7.5 million to $8.4 million in annualized savings<\/strong>. Blaize said those savings will be redirected toward growth initiatives rather than simply retained as cost reductions.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThis plan is a significant step in that direction, and it preserves the capabilities we need to execute,\u201d Blaize CEO Dinakar Munagala said in announcing the restructuring.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Munagala identified three primary areas of focus: the company’s Hybrid AI platform and AI Services<\/strong>, its autonomous systems business<\/strong>, and national-scale sovereign AI programs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThis is where our focus is now, and it is where Blaize creates the most value,\u201d Munagala said. He also acknowledged the employees affected by the workforce reduction, calling the decision difficult.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A growing company takes a smaller-footprint approach<\/h3>\n

The restructuring comes as Blaize attempts to scale its business in a rapidly changing artificial intelligence market.<\/p>\n

Blaize develops programmable, energy-efficient AI computing technology designed to process AI workloads at the edge, in the cloud and in data centers. Its technology is aimed at applications including computer vision, autonomous systems, robotics, smart cities, industrial automation, telecommunications, logistics and other mission-critical operations.<\/p>\n

The company’s second-quarter financial results, released in August, showed revenue of $12 million<\/strong>, compared with $2.7 million in the first quarter of 2026. At the same time, Blaize lowered its full-year 2026 revenue outlook to between $40 million and $43 million<\/strong>, citing engagements that did not convert into orders and higher supply-chain costs, including materially higher memory prices.<\/p>\n

The company said commercial activity continues through two primary revenue engines: physical AI, including autonomous systems, robotics and ruggedized equipment, and its Hybrid AI Platform. Blaize also reported a first purchase order from Europe for several thousand units and increased activity in the Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n

Restructuring costs expected to reach $1.3 million<\/h3>\n

According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Blaize implemented the restructuring plan Sept. 24 after approval by its board of directors.<\/p>\n

The company estimates total restructuring costs and cash expenditures of approximately $1.1 million to $1.3 million<\/strong>, with substantially all of the expense tied to employee severance and benefits.<\/p>\n

Blaize expects most of those pretax restructuring expenses to be recorded during the third quarter of 2026. The company expects the restructuring to be substantially complete by Dec. 31.<\/p>\n

The workforce reduction is therefore not being presented by the company as a retreat from artificial intelligence development. Instead, management describes it as an effort to narrow the company’s operating footprint while concentrating investment on technologies and markets it believes can generate greater returns.<\/p>\n

What it means for El Dorado Hills<\/h3>\n

For El Dorado Hills, the announcement places one of the community’s technology companies at the intersection of two larger economic trends: the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and the pressure on AI companies to demonstrate sustainable revenue growth.<\/p>\n

Blaize has maintained its headquarters in El Dorado Hills while operating internationally. Securities filings list the company’s El Dorado Hills headquarters and describe its business as providing AI-enabled edge-computing solutions using proprietary hardware and software.<\/p>\n

The company became a publicly traded entity in January 2025 following the completion of its business combination with BurTech Acquisition Corp. Blaize began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker BZAI<\/strong>, with warrants trading under BZAIW<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The latest restructuring represents a significant change in the company’s approach less than two years after that public-market debut.<\/p>\n

For local residents, the most immediate impact is the workforce reduction. Blaize has not publicly disclosed in its restructuring announcement the precise number of El Dorado County employees affected, and the company’s announcement does not break the job cuts down by location.<\/p>\n

What is clear is the financial objective: reduce recurring expenses, preserve what management considers essential capabilities and place the resulting savings behind selected growth initiatives.<\/p>\n

The company’s ability to turn that strategy into sustained revenue growth will now be closely watched by investors, employees and the broader El Dorado County business community.<\/p>\n
