UMB Financial to Acquire El Dorado Savings Bank in $506 Million Deal<\/h1>\n

PLACERVILLE, Calif. \u2014 Oct. 28, 2026<\/p>\n

El Dorado Savings Bank, a longstanding financial institution headquartered in Placerville, is set to join a much larger banking organization under a proposed $506 million acquisition announced this week.<\/p>\n

UMB Financial Corporation, a Kansas City, Missouri-based financial services company, announced Oct. 27 that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire El Dorado Savings Bank, F.S.B. The transaction would expand UMB\u2019s presence in Northern California and introduce its branch network into Nevada.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1958, El Dorado Savings Bank has served customers for nearly seven decades. Its proposed acquisition marks a significant development for the regional banking market, although the immediate implications for local customers, branch operations and employees remain to be fully detailed.<\/p>\n

The agreement calls for a combination of cash and stock, with the transaction subject to regulatory approval and approval by El Dorado shareholders. The companies expect to complete the deal in the first quarter of 2027.<\/p>\n

A $506 million transaction built around deposits<\/h2>\n

El Dorado Savings Bank reported approximately $2.4 billion in assets, $2.1 billion in deposits and $500 million in loans as of Sept. 30, 2026, according to the transaction announcement.<\/p>\n

Under the agreement, El Dorado shareholders would receive a combination of UMB common stock and cash. The announced consideration is structured as 52% cash and 48% stock, with a total transaction value of approximately $506 million.<\/p>\n

For UMB, the acquisition is not simply an opportunity to add branches. Its announcement emphasizes the value of El Dorado\u2019s consumer deposit base and the additional liquidity those deposits could provide to support lending.<\/p>\n

In an Oct. 27 message to regional advisory boards, UMB described El Dorado\u2019s deposits as \u201ccore, granular, low-cost, consumer deposits\u201d and highlighted what it called an \u201cincredibly low loan-to-deposit ratio.\u201d<\/p>\n

That ratio is an important part of the deal\u2019s financial rationale. El Dorado\u2019s reported loans amounted to approximately 24% of its deposits, meaning the bank held substantially more in deposits than it had extended in loans.<\/p>\n

UMB sees that balance sheet structure as an opportunity to put additional funds to work through its existing lending business while expanding its retail presence in the West.<\/p>\n

35 branches across California and Nevada<\/h2>\n

The acquisition would bring 35 El Dorado Savings Bank branches into UMB\u2019s network: 31 in California and four in Nevada.<\/p>\n

UMB said the transaction would expand its branch network to 227 locations across 15 states. The additional locations would strengthen its presence in Northern California and extend its physical footprint into western Nevada.<\/p>\n

For El Dorado County, the transaction involves a bank headquartered in Placerville that has operated since 1958. Its integration into a multistate banking organization could eventually affect how customers access banking products and services, depending on the integration decisions made after closing.<\/p>\n

UMB Chairman and CEO Mariner Kemper characterized the acquisition as a major step in the company\u2019s regional expansion.<\/p>\n

For customers in Placerville and elsewhere in El Dorado County, one of the most immediate questions is what will change \u2014 and what will remain the same.<\/p>\n

As of Oct. 28, the available transaction announcements did not establish a specific timetable for individual branch changes, account conversions or changes to customer-facing banking services.<\/p>\n

UMB\u2019s acquisition materials outline a planned integration process that includes regulatory applications, coordination between the two organizations and preparations for converting systems after the transaction closes.<\/p>\n

The company has indicated that it expects to begin communicating with El Dorado customers about post-closing transition plans after regulatory approval, subject to applicable restrictions and coordination with El Dorado Savings Bank.<\/p>\n

UMB anticipates that the systems conversion process could occur in late first quarter or early second quarter of 2027. That is a projected timetable, not a confirmation of when any particular branch, account or service will change.<\/p>\n
