Holiday Magic Returns to Camino Foothills

CAMINO, Calif. — As autumn wanes and the first holiday lights begin to flicker, the foothill community of Camino and surrounding parts of El Dorado County welcome back one of its most cherished traditions: the annual Christmas tree season at the farms operated by the Apple Hill Growers Association (AHGA).

According to the association, the 2025 Christmas tree season officially begins the day after Thanksgiving — November 28 — though some farms opened earlier in November. Apple Hill Growers Association+1 As of late November, a broad selection of farms — from Hacienda Orchards to Hillside Tree Farm and Indian Rock Tree Farm — stand ready to welcome families, friends, and holiday seekers. What to Expect: Trees, Treats and Tradition

Visitors will find more than just firs waiting — many of the Apple Hill farms pair their tree-lots with festive bake shops, cider, local wines, and quaint artisan products. According to AHGA:

“Our farms are open this weekend for Christmas trees, apples, pies, wine tasting, cider, and more!”

One long-time grower, speaking on behalf of the community, put it plainly:

“There’s no better way to create wonderful traditions with your family than by joining our families to choose your holiday tree.” — Chris Delfino, AHGA President and grower at Delfino Farms

That spirit of community and seasonal warmth permeates the farms: expect hot apple cider, freshly baked pies, handmade jams, sauces, olive oils, and other small-batch goods perfect for holiday tables or gifts. Apple Hill Growers Association+1

Where and When to Go

Most tree farms — including Hacienda Orchards, Hillside Tree Farm, Indian Rock Tree Farm, and others — begin welcoming guests on November 28, 2025, and plan to remain open until sold out or through Christmas Eve, depending on the farm. Hours and availability can vary, so visitors are encouraged to check the official AHGA website or the individual farm’s website before heading out. Community, Economy and Holiday Spirit

For many families in El Dorado County, visiting Apple Hill has become more than a shopping trip — it’s a ritual, a way to connect with the land, appreciate the seasonal cycle, and support local agriculture. The AHGA today represents more than 50 family-owned farms, up from just 16 apple ranches when the association was founded in 1964. Apple Hill Growers Association+1

Beyond nostalgia and tradition, the seasonal economy creates opportunities for local growers, bakers, artisans, and small-business vendors. Pies, wines, crafts, and other handmade goods contribute to the liveliness of Camino and the broader foothill region through the holiday season.

Plan Ahead — Tips for a Smooth Visit

  • Check online for each farm’s hours and availability — supply and hours vary.

  • Expect weekends after Thanksgiving to be busy; mornings are often less crowded and more pleasant.

  • Bring cash or be prepared for limited cell service — many of the farms are rustic, rural, and may have limited connectivity.

  • Dress for cool weather, and don’t forget a saw if you’re cutting your own tree (many farms provide saws on site, but it helps to be prepared).

  • Consider picking up artisan items — jams, olive oils, holiday pies, or handcrafted gifts — many of which make unique holiday host or stocking gifts.
