EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. — Face in a Book, the independent bookstore long located at 4359 Town Center Blvd., Suite 113, in El Dorado Hills, has announced it will close at the end of March 2026, marking the end of an era for local readers and book lovers.

The announcement was shared directly with customers this week, citing changes ahead in 2026 and reflecting on years of community support.

“There are changes ahead for 2026… Face in a Book will be closing at the end of March. It’s been a great run, and a pure pleasure to share books and learn from each other.”

Owned and operated by Tina, Face in a Book has served as more than a retail space, functioning as a gathering place for readers, writers and families in El Dorado County. The bookstore became known locally for curated selections, knowledgeable booksellers and its role in fostering a community-centered reading culture within the El Dorado Hills Town Center.

“Tina and all of the booksellers are profoundly grateful to those of you who have supported us over the years, and look forward to seeing you before we close,”

the statement continued.

While no specific reason for the closure was cited, independent bookstores nationwide have faced ongoing challenges, including rising operating costs, shifts in consumer buying habits and competition from online retailers. Even so, many have remained resilient by leaning into local support — a factor Face in a Book acknowledged as central to its longevity.

Customers are encouraged to visit the store in the coming months, both to shop and to say goodbye. The bookstore is expected to continue regular operations through March, though no details have been released regarding final events, sales or the future of the space.

For El Dorado Hills residents, the closure represents the loss of a familiar and deeply personal local business — one built on conversations, recommendations and the shared love of books.
