EL DORADO, Calif. —
A nationally recognized tribute to Johnny Cash is set to take the stage in El Dorado County next week, as El Dorado County Community Concerts presents a live performance at Union Mine High School Theatre.
The concert, featuring James Garner and his touring band, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at the El Dorado campus theater. Organizers warn that attendance is expected to be high, encouraging guests to arrive early to secure seating.
A Touring Tribute with National Reach
For more than 18 years, Garner’s tribute production has toured extensively across the United States, delivering more than 700 performances that recreate the signature sound of Cash and the Tennessee Three. The show is known for its precise musical replication—often described as the iconic “boom-chicka-boom” rhythm—as well as its narrative storytelling.
Audiences can expect renditions of classic hits including “Folsom Prison Blues” and “Ring of Fire,” along with historical insights into Cash’s life and career.
“This is more than just a concert—it’s a world-class tribute that captures the spirit and sound of Johnny Cash,”
event organizers said in a statement.
The production has appeared at notable venues, including performances at Folsom and San Quentin prisons, and has been featured on PBS programming. Its reputation for authenticity has drawn praise from longtime observers of Cash’s career.
Gene Beley, a reporter present at Cash’s famed 1968 Folsom Prison performance, has previously described Garner’s show as “a faithful, high-quality resurrection of the classic Cash experience.”
Local Access, Regional Appeal
The event is hosted by the El Dorado County Community Concerts organization, which continues to bring regional and national acts to local stages, offering residents access to professional-level performances without leaving the county.
The venue, located at 6530 Koki Lane in El Dorado, provides an intimate theater setting that organizers say enhances the audience experience—though capacity limits mean late arrivals may be turned away if the event reaches capacity.
