Marking its 20th year, Banners on Parade stands as a testament to the enduring power of artistic expression in Placerville, California. A collaborative endeavor uniting artists, businesses, non-profits, and city government, this project has woven 556 vibrant pieces into the community’s visual history from 2005 to 2023. Now, the call to artists for the 2024 edition heralds a new chapter in this artistic journey.

Brushstrokes on Main: From Exhibition to Auction

Accepted artists will see their painted banners adorning light poles along Historic Main Street, creating an outdoor art gallery that captivates both locals and visitors. The visual feast will last from June to October, offering a summertime spectacle for all to enjoy. Following this public display, the banners will find new homes through an online auction in late October 2024. The proceeds from these sales will become the brushstrokes that continue to paint the canvas of Placerville’s artistic future, funding the Placerville Art on Parade.

Judging the Tapestry: Prizes and Recognition Await

A local artist and art teacher will assume the role of the discerning eye, judging the banners based on their artistic merit. The top three banners will be awarded cash prizes: $100 for First Place, $50 for Second Place, and $25 for Third Place. In addition to the winners, three Honorable Mentions will also be acknowledged, ensuring recognition for a diverse array of artistic expressions that grace Main Street.

Images of Hope El Dorado: A Pillar of Support

Behind the scenes, the 20th Annual Banners on Parade is made possible through the continued support of Images of Hope El Dorado. This longstanding sponsor has played a pivotal role in nurturing the growth of this community art project, underlining the collaborative ethos that makes Placerville’s artistic community thrive.

Call to Artists: Paint Your Legacy

The canvas is ready, and the brushes await – the Banners on Parade Call to Artists and Application is now open for submissions. Artists, both aspiring and seasoned, are encouraged to seize this opportunity to contribute to the living gallery that is Historic Main Street. Apply now, and let your artistic voice resonate through the heart of Placerville in the summer of 2024.
