El Dorado County (Feb 23, 2024) – In a breakthrough investigation, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) Detectives delved into a string of thefts that rattled El Dorado Hills in early February. The audacious suspects not only burglarized multiple vehicles but brazenly made off with a stolen vehicle. The plot thickened as victims discovered their credit cards had been exploited at various retail outlets in Rancho Cordova.
The focus of the investigation honed in on a prime suspect, 36-year-old Amber Cunningham, hailing from Sacramento. Surveillance footage from several retail locations painted a damning picture of Amber, showcasing her engaged in identity theft through the illicit use of victims’ credit cards. Building a case against her, an arrest warrant for Amber and a search warrant for her residence were swiftly issued.
On the decisive day of February 15, 2024, law enforcement executed the warrants at Amber’s residence. The operation led to the successful apprehension of Amber Cunningham. Crucially, investigators unearthed stolen items belonging to the victims, solidifying the link between Amber and the initial thefts as well as subsequent identity thefts.
However, the saga took an intriguing turn as a second suspect emerged during the warrant execution. Identified as 36-year-old Johnathan Reelfs, also from Sacramento, he was discovered to be already in custody in another jurisdiction. EDSO Detectives have reached out to Reelfs, and the investigation into his role in this intricate case remains ongoing.
The collaborative efforts of EDSO Detectives have not only resulted in the apprehension of a primary suspect but have also unveiled a potential accomplice, adding a layer of complexity to this unfolding narrative. As the investigation continues, the community awaits further revelations about the extent of this identity theft ring.
