Placerville, California — The Department of Transportation (DOT) in El Dorado County has announced a delay in the scheduled delivery of 1,100 cubic yards of concrete for the Mosquito Bridge replacement project, owing to adverse weather conditions. The construction work necessitating this delivery will prompt the full closure of Mosquito Road, set to commence from Friday, March 29, 2024, at 10:00 pm, and extend through Saturday, March 30, 2024, until 5:00 pm. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and plan accordingly, with a designated detour via Rock Creek Road.

This delay is attributed to recent inclement weather conditions, which have disrupted various facets of the construction process, consequently affecting the concrete delivery timeline.

Road Closure Details:

  • Road: Mosquito Road & Mosquito Bridge
  • Dates: March 29, 2024, to March 30, 2024
  • Duration: 10:00 pm to 5:00 pm
  • Closure/Traffic Controls: Closure at the gates

The closure of Mosquito Road is imperative to ensure the safety of both motorists and workers during the delivery and placement of 1,100 cubic yards of concrete for Pier 3 footing at the north side of the project. This equates to approximately 120 concrete truckloads, with an estimated 10 truckloads departing and returning every hour from the concrete batch plant.

Closing Mosquito Road at the gates aims to mitigate potential conflicts between concrete trucks, pumps, and workers during nighttime concrete placement, scheduled from 10:00 pm on Friday night to 5:00 pm on Saturday afternoon. The designated concrete truck route will traverse from the project’s batch plant near Finnon Lake, across Rock Creek Road to Mosquito Cut-off Road, and down Mosquito Road to the Pier 3 location at the 3rd switchback on the north side of the river.

During the nighttime concrete operation, the public is advised to utilize Rock Creek Road for access and anticipate delays. Motorists must exercise extra caution at intersections, particularly at Rock Creek Road/Mosquito Cutoff Road and Mosquito Cutoff Road/Mosquito Road. Flaggers will be stationed above the gates at adequate turnaround areas to coordinate with Emergency Services if required.

The County acknowledges and appreciates the cooperation and patience of motorists affected by this roadway closure and apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

For inquiries concerning this construction, individuals are encouraged to contact the County’s Transportation mainline at (530) 621-5900, selecting Option 3 for Engineering.
