El Dorado County (April 9, 2024) — In a bid to enhance public access and comprehension of development initiatives, El Dorado County’s Planning and Building Department has unveiled the “Projects in Your Area” online tool. This innovative platform aims to streamline the process of locating information on proposed, ongoing, and sanctioned projects within the county, addressing long-standing community concerns.
Director of the Planning and Building Department, Karen Garner, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating,
“We’ve taken heed of our citizens’ frustrations in navigating the complexities of accessing planning information in El Dorado County. Today, we are thrilled to introduce this user-friendly, interactive tool as a solution to facilitate swift and effortless access to vital project details.”
Developed collaboratively with the County’s Information Technology and Surveyor departments, Projects in Your Area offers multiple search options. Users can either explore an interactive map segmented by Supervisorial Districts or peruse a categorized list encompassing residential, commercial, mixed-use, campground/RV, and light industrial projects.
The tool furnishes comprehensive project profiles, featuring descriptions, application types, submission dates, zoning particulars, elevation data, applicant information, Assessor’s Parcel Numbers (APN), assigned planner details, status updates, relevant documents, maps, and General Plan Land use designations. Notably, users can visualize project locations in relation to one another through the integrated map feature.
Garner emphasized the tool’s evolution, noting forthcoming additions such as links to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents and opportunities for public commentary. She assured that while not every project application would be immediately available, those of significant public interest would be accessible within weeks of submission and continually updated until approval.
Furthermore, Garner highlighted the tool’s user-friendly nature, eliminating the necessity for public engagement through the TRAKiT system, which she acknowledged as less intuitive. “Projects in Your Area” will be seamlessly integrated into the County’s website, requiring no user account registration for access.
This initiative underscores El Dorado County’s commitment to fostering transparency, engagement, and informed decision-making in the realm of development planning. With “Projects in Your Area,” residents and stakeholders alike are empowered to actively participate in shaping the future landscape of their communities.
