South Lake Tahoe (Sept 3, 2024) – On September 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., the Stella Van Dyke Johnson American Legion Post 795 in South Lake Tahoe will hold a 9/11 remembrance ceremony, inviting the community to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks. The event, open to locals and visitors alike, will take place at the American Legion Hall on Lake Tahoe Boulevard, blending music, speeches, and heartfelt reflection.
Local talents will lead the ceremony’s musical segment, featuring Cash Only Band’s Davin Kangas alongside soloist Jill Sharlow, with additional performances by bagpiper Mario DeLallo and South Tahoe High School bugler Peter Causing. Light refreshments from Tacos Por Favor Catering will be served, adding a touch of community spirit to the solemn gathering.
“This year marks the 23rd anniversary of 9/11,” said Post 795 Commander Tom Millham. “It’s important to continue to remember the innocent victims and first responders who died on that terrible day, along with the brave men and women who continue the fight for freedom every day.”
Speakers at the event will include El Dorado County District V Supervisor Brooke Laine, former South Lake Tahoe Mayor Cristi Creegan, Fire Rescue Chief Jim Drennan, and Daughters of the American Revolution Regent Jini Becktell. First responders from various local agencies, including fire protection districts, police, sheriffs’ offices, and federal services, are expected to attend, underscoring the continued dedication of those who serve.
