El Dorado County (Oct 25, 2024) –
Jenn Beard is one of those people you might describe as both a lifelong local and a dedicated professional, bridging her roots and her passion for education seamlessly. Growing up right here in El Dorado County, Jenn attended Pioneer Elementary and El Dorado High School, gaining her first sense of community as the eldest of six children. With a natural pull toward working with kids, she joined the Child Development ROP during her senior year, planting her initial career aspirations in education. From there, life took her down an unexpected but cherished path when she and her husband opened a restaurant on Main Street in Placerville. For over a decade, the couple served their community, balancing the demands of running a business and raising their two daughters, who continue to inspire Jenn daily. But her heart called her back to education, especially when she discovered her passion for working with children with special needs, which eventually led her to the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE).
Currently, Jenn works as an Instructional Assistant – Autism in the Special Services Department, stationed at Schnell Elementary for the past seven years. With 13 years under her belt at EDCOE, Jenn has left her mark across three different sites, supporting students from TK to 8th grade. In her role, she’s at the front lines of academic and emotional support, helping children develop independence and build relationships with their peers. “There’s nothing like watching kids meet their goals and go beyond them,” Jenn says, clearly animated by the success stories that pepper her career. Her proudest moments aren’t single achievements but a collection of breakthroughs and milestones her students have reached over the years.
Ask anyone who knows Jenn, and they’ll tell you her team spirit shines just as brightly as her dedication to students. She values the openness of her department, the free exchange of ideas, and the shared focus on “our kiddos.” Having built lasting friendships with coworkers and mentors, she emphasizes how much it means to feel heard and supported in making student needs a top priority.
Outside the classroom, Jenn’s enthusiasm for her family is evident—especially when it comes to her grandkids. “I want them to think of me as their biggest cheerleader,” she says with pride. And when she’s not on the sidelines of a soccer game or at the golf course, you might just find her binge-watching classic episodes of Law & Order, an unexpected hobby for someone with such a busy life. Her admiration for Mariska Hargitay, particularly the empathy and passion she brings to her role as Olivia Benson, shows Jenn’s appreciation for strong figures who give back, much like herself.
