El Dorado County (Nov 3, 2024) – John Hidahl, the El Dorado County supervisor for District 1, passed away suddenly at 73. A resident of El Dorado Hills for 46 years, Hidahl was deeply involved in his community, advocating for senior housing and other quality-of-life issues. His passing was announced by county officials on Sunday, expressing the shock and sadness felt by many in the community. His death leaves a significant gap on the Board of Supervisors, where he was a steady presence and leader.

Hidahl’s term was set to end in January 2024, with Greg Ferrero due to take over the District 1 seat. Ferrero, who had anticipated learning from Hidahl in the coming months, shared his own grief, emphasizing the loss of both a public servant and a mentor. During his years of service, Hidahl was widely respected for his commitment to El Dorado County, having served on various community boards and continuously working to address residents’ needs.
