El Dorado County (Nov 9, 2024) – After decades of hard work, passion, and a sprinkle of sugar, Del and Rachel Hoover have announced their retirement from Hooverville Orchards’ Bakeshop. Known for their friendly smiles and renowned baked goods, this husband-and-wife duo has been serving both locals and travelers at the iconic Placerville orchard since they took over the family business, which dates back to 1973. Their heartfelt farewell includes immense gratitude for their loyal customers and family members who have supported the Bakeshop’s traditions, including recipes passed down from Barbara Hoover, the family matriarch and original Bakeshop founder.
Starting this Thanksgiving, Del and Rachel will be passing the rolling pin to Holly and Jenny, two dedicated bakers ready to maintain the Bakeshop’s reputation for its beloved pies, cobblers, and seasonal treats. The pair are eager to carry on this sweet legacy while also infusing fresh energy into the menu, ensuring that Hooverville Orchards remains a cherished stop for locals and visitors alike.
The Hoovers won’t be going far, though. They’ll continue to lend their green thumbs to the orchards and enjoy more family time, including trips to Costa Rica. As they prepare for their next chapter, the couple invites customers to stop by for a warm farewell and perhaps a holiday pie or two before Thanksgiving. This transition is bittersweet for the community, so feel free to share your favorite memories of Hooverville’s Bakeshop here!
