El Dorado County (Dec 7, 2024) – Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park will once again host the annual Christmas in Coloma celebration on December 14 and 15, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This beloved holiday tradition promises a mix of history, festivities, and family-friendly activities, set against the scenic backdrop of California’s Gold Rush country.
One of the event’s highlights will be the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Emmanuel Church, scheduled for December 14. Known as Northern California’s oldest church, this historic gem has undergone significant restoration to preserve its 1855 architecture and storied legacy. The ceremony marks an important milestone for the park and its visitors, offering a glimpse into the spiritual life of early settlers.
Guests can tour rarely opened historic houses, participate in hands-on crafts and games, and enjoy live music and caroling. Santa Claus will also make an appearance, spreading holiday cheer to children and adults alike. Traditional food vendors and warming fires will keep the atmosphere cozy and inviting.
Organizers emphasize the unique opportunity to explore Coloma’s rich history during this festive period. With costumed docents, wreath-making workshops, and engaging storytelling sessions, Christmas in Coloma is an event designed to entertain and educate.
