My first suggestion request is: Walgreens to shutter Cameron Park store next month
Walgreens is planning to close its store at 4014 Plaza Goldorado Circle in Cameron Park on Jan. 27, the company confirmed on Thursday.
Pharmacy chain Walgreens has added an El Dorado County store to its planned closure list, which will see three of its area locations shutter next month due to similar reasons.
Walgreens, owned by Deerfield, Illinois-based Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. (Nasdaq: WBA), is planning to close its store at 4014 Plaza Goldorado Circle in Cameron Park on Jan. 27, the company confirmed on Thursday. The store joins others at 1401 Broadway and 7155 24th St. in Sacramento set to close in the new year. The Broadway store will shutter on Jan. 23 followed by the 24th Street site on Jan. 29.
In an email to the Business Journal, Walgreens cited similar reasoning behind the decision to close the Cameron Park site and the Sacramento locations, such as “increased regulatory and reimbursement pressures” weighing on its ability to cover costs associated with rent, staffing and supply needs. The company said it intends to redeploy the majority of its team members from the closing stores.
Customers who utilize the Cameron Park pharmacy will have their prescriptions transferred to a nearby CVS pharmacy at 3500 Palmer Drive, in the Goldorado Shopping Center, Walgreens stated.
The latest closures come on the heels of several other sites that ended operations in 2024. So far this year, Walgreens has closed stores in Placerville, North Highlands, Citrus Heights and Arden-Arcade.
In addition to the two Sacramento stores set for closure, which have been listed for sublease, Walgreens is looking to offload its Cameron Park property. The Plaza Goldorado Circle property, which includes an approximately 15,000-square-foot retail building, is being marketed for sale at $225 per square foot on the company’s real estate website. The property will be available as of Feb. 24, 2025.
