In a remarkable display of solidarity, communities across the Lake Tahoe region have mobilized to provide essential supplies to those affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. The initiative, spearheaded by Truckee Town Council Member Courtney Henderson, underscores the interconnectedness of Californians in the face of natural disasters.

“Wildfire truly impacts all of us in California, whether it is the threat of wildfire, direct experience with it, or the ramifications of it as it relates to our wildfire insurance,” Henderson stated during a recent meeting. “Just as we are one region here in Tahoe, we are also one California. A lot of folks say that rural communities are small. We’re small, but we’re mighty. When we band together, we can support our urban counterparts. We truly are one California.”

The relief drive, running from January 14 through January 21, has established multiple drop-off locations across the region, including:

  • Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District
    • Address: 10981 Truckee Way
    • Hours:
      • Tuesday, 1/14 – Friday, 1/17: 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
      • Saturday, 1/18 – Sunday, 1/19: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
      • Monday, 1/20 – Tuesday, 1/21: 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Truckee Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center
    • Address: 10065 Donner Pass Road
    • Hours:
      • Tuesday, 1/14 – Tuesday, 1/21: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • North Tahoe Visitor Center in Tahoe City
    • Address: 100 N Lake Blvd, Tahoe City, CA 96145
    • Hours: Open daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • North Tahoe Visitor Center in Kings Beach
    • Address: 8611 N Lake Blvd, Kings Beach, CA 96143
    • Hours: Open daily from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The collected items will be transported to the LA Dream Center on January 22, a nonprofit organization actively engaged in wildfire relief efforts.

Jessica Penman, President and CEO of the Truckee Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the community’s commitment, stating, “When one California community faces hardship, we all feel the impact. Our region is a place that knows how to come together in times of need, and it’s inspiring to see how we are all stepping up to support our fellow Californians during this challenging time.”

For those preferring to contribute financially, several reputable organizations are accepting donations to aid wildfire victims, including the California Community Foundation, California Fire Foundation, L.A. Fire Department Foundation, American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, World Central Kitchen, and the LA Dream Center.

This collective effort highlights the resilience and generosity of rural communities in supporting their urban counterparts during times of crisis.
