The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors has unanimously voted to eliminate funding for several prominent tourism organizations, including Visit El Dorado and the El Dorado County Visitor’s Authority. The cuts stem from a decline in Discretionary Transient Occupancy Tax (DTOT) revenues, which were 10% lower than budgeted in the previous fiscal year. Projections indicate an additional 5% decrease in the current fiscal year. Chris Delfino of Apple Hill’s Delfino Farms emphasized the importance of Visit El Dorado in attracting visitors year-round. “We want people to know it’s not just October,” he said. “It’s literally year-round.” KCRA
Jody Franklin of Visit El Dorado expressed concern over the decision, stating, “I don’t understand how this part is going to fix that problem. We’re the ones making the money. We’re inviting [visitors] to spend the night, spend their money, and then go back to their homes.” KCRA
