PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Arts and Culture El Dorado is set to unveil “Filaments: Fiber Arts in El Dorado County,” a new exhibition celebrating the region’s rich textile heritage. The show opens Thursday, April 17, at the Switchboard Gallery, located at 525 Main Street in Placerville, and will run through June 1, 2025.
The exhibition features handcrafted works by local weavers, including blankets, sculptural pieces, baskets, and other original hand-spun creations. These pieces, meticulously crafted from locally sourced fibers, exemplify the artistry and dedication of El Dorado County’s fiber artists. In addition to the artworks, the exhibition offers a historical perspective on weaving, showcasing various devices essential to textile creation, such as looms and spinning wheels.
An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, April 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Switchboard Gallery. The event is held in partnership with the Hangtown Fibers Guild, a local organization dedicated to promoting fiber arts in the community.
The Switchboard Gallery, named in homage to its history as a Pacific Telephone Company building, serves as the administrative office and exhibition space for Arts and Culture El Dorado. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and on weekends from 12:00 to 4:00 PM.
