PLACERVILLE, Calif. — The Rubicon Challenge 2025 is set to roar back into the El Dorado County Fairgrounds on Sunday, June 15, promising a high-octane afternoon of off-road competitions, trailering feats, and rock-crawling showdowns as part of the annual El Dorado County Fair.

Hosted by Jeepers Jamboree and backed by regional off-road groups, the Rubicon Challenge showcases the skill and grit of 4×4 enthusiasts. Competitions include a Rock Race, Trailer Skills Challenge, and the much-anticipated Bounty Hill, which pits top drivers against one of the toughest man-made obstacle climbs in Northern California.

Classes for 2025 are structured to level the playing field based on modifications:

  • Stock – Vehicles with limited upgrades and original drivetrain/suspension. Long arm kits are allowed if consistent with OEM design. Tires must be under 37 inches.

  • UTV/Side-by-Side – Stock or modified. Tech inspectors may reclassify based on modifications.

  • Modified – Heavily upgraded drivetrains or suspensions, but still based on the original vehicle frame and body. Tires must be 37 inches or larger.

  • Unlimited – Vehicles purpose-built for rock racing or crawling. No limitation on build, provided all safety requirements are met.

Participation in Bounty Hill requires entry in at least one other class. All competitors must undergo Tech Inspection in the Pit Area of Placerville Speedway by 12 p.m. The fairgrounds gate opens at 10 a.m. on event day.

“Every year we see more innovation, more excitement, and more local pride in the Rubicon Challenge,” said a Jeepers Jamboree representative. “Whether you’re running stock or rolling in a tube-chassis crawler, this event showcases what makes El Dorado County the epicenter of off-road culture.”

Named after the world-famous Rubicon Trail, which cuts through the Sierra Nevada from Georgetown to Lake Tahoe, the event carries not only mechanical prestige but deep roots in local history. The trail itself is maintained in part by organizations like the Rubicon Trail Foundation, ensuring it remains open for recreational use.

The Rubicon Challenge is included with fair admission. To register or inquire about vehicle classification, competitors should contact the fair office or email experiencetherubicon@gmail.com.
