PLACERVILLE, Calif. — After nearly a decade of serving scratch-made comfort food and craft beverages, Placerville Public House—a beloved gastropub on Main Street—is officially up for sale. Owners Al and Darcy have listed the business, citing relocation as their motivation.
The establishment, affectionately known as “The Pub,” has been a cornerstone of Placerville’s dining scene since its inception in 2016. In 2021, the Griffins relocated the restaurant to the historic Hangman’s Tree building at 305 Main Street, a site steeped in Gold Rush-era history. The building’s storied past includes its namesake tree, once used for public executions, adding a unique character to the venue.
In April 2024, Placerville Public House gained national attention when it was featured on Food Network’s “Best Bite in Town,” hosted by Guy Fieri. The show spotlighted six local eateries, with the Public House earning praise for its inventive takes on American pub classics. Signature dishes like beer-infused street tacos and California-style pizzas have been local favorites.
Beyond its culinary offerings, the pub has been a community hub, hosting weekly events such as trivia nights and live music. During the Caldor Fire in 2021, the restaurant served as a de facto relief center, providing meals to displaced residents and first responders.
The business is listed at $475,000, offering a turnkey operation complete with a fully equipped kitchen, bar, and dining area. The 5,000-square-foot space includes original brick walls, vintage murals, and classic pub décor. According to the listing, the sale presents an opportunity for a seasoned restaurateur or ambitious entrepreneur to step into a successful, high-profile business with a loyal customer base and strong community presence.
