Emergency crews responded to a serious crash in Diamond Springs early Wednesday that left at least one person with major injuries. The collision was reported just after 7:00 a.m. near the intersection of Pleasant Valley and Zandonella roads, a rural but often-busy corridor in western El Dorado County.

CHP units arrived within minutes of the call and found two heavily damaged vehicles blocking both lanes. Initial reports indicate that one of the vehicles may have crossed the centerline, but the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

“We’re still piecing together what happened, but it appears to have been a head-on collision,”

said Officer Mike Harris of the California Highway Patrol’s Placerville Office.

“At least one person sustained major injuries and was transported by ambulance.”

The identity of the injured party has not yet been released. No fatalities have been confirmed as of press time. Tow trucks were dispatched shortly after 8:00 a.m., and the roadway was cleared by 8:45 a.m. Drivers experienced significant delays during the morning commute, as traffic was diverted through surrounding residential streets.

Authorities are urging motorists to use extra caution along county roads, particularly during early morning hours when glare and narrow shoulders increase the risk of collision.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and El Dorado County Fire Protection District also responded to the scene. CHP has requested anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to contact their Placerville office at (530) 748-2450.
