Today, the El Dorado County community salutes a legacy of service as Deputy Gennai officially retires from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. A decorated veteran of both the U.S. Marine Corps and county law enforcement, Gennai leaves behind a legacy marked by quiet heroism, loyalty, and deep community ties.
His journey began in the United States Marine Corps, where he served with distinction before transitioning into law enforcement. For decades, Deputy Gennai patrolled the streets, responded to crises, mentored younger deputies, and served as a pillar of stability through some of the region’s most challenging times.
“He didn’t just wear the badge—he lived the mission,” said a spokesperson for the El Dorado Deputy Sheriffs’ Association (DSA). “His courage, work ethic, and compassion shaped the culture of this department. Deputy Gennai exemplified what it means to serve.”
Known for his steady hand and unwavering presence, Gennai’s impact was felt not just in arrests made or calls answered, but in the trust he earned from those he protected. He was often the first face a neighbor would see during an emergency, and just as often the one offering comfort when the crisis passed.
The DSA released a heartfelt statement commemorating his retirement, stating, “Deputy Gennai, your tireless work, your unwavering spirit, and your genuine care for the people you’ve served have left an indelible mark on all of us.”
While details of Deputy Gennai’s next steps remain private, colleagues say he’s planning to enjoy time with family and indulge a long-deferred passion for travel and the outdoors. His final roll call, held earlier today at the sheriff’s office, was met with applause, a few tears, and a standing ovation from peers, administrators, and community members alike.
From the Marine Corps to El Dorado’s rural backroads, Deputy Gennai’s service stands as a reminder of what one dedicated individual can do for a community. As the sun sets on his career, El Dorado County rises in gratitude.
