PLACERVILLE, Calif. — A segment of Old Depot Road will be temporarily realigned beginning Sept. 4 as part of the county’s Diamond Springs Parkway Phase 1B project, county officials announced Wednesday. The temporary layout will move the existing Old Depot Road intersection with Missouri Flat Road about 600 feet northwest to the Sierra Door & Supply driveway; detour signage will be placed in both directions on Missouri Flat Road to alert drivers to the change.
The short-term alignment is expected to remain in place for approximately 12 months while crews complete work on the parkway and prepare the site for the permanent, signalized intersection where Old Depot Road will meet Diamond Springs Parkway and Missouri Flat Road. Motorists and local businesses should expect altered turning movements and temporary traffic patterns during the construction period.
The Diamond Springs Parkway Phase 1B project is part of a multi-year effort to build a new four-lane arterial connecting Missouri Flat Road to State Route 49, with curb, gutter, sidewalks and multiple intersection improvements. The work is part of a broader regional transportation plan intended to improve traffic flow and safety in the Diamond Springs–Placerville corridor.
County officials said the staging change is intended to keep the larger project moving while minimizing the footprint of active construction near Missouri Flat Road.
“We want the traveling public to better understand the how and why behind the construction projects they’ve been seeing for the last couple years and will continue to see as DOT works to make that area safer,”
said Rafael Martinez, director of the county Department of Transportation, in a recent project update.
The county’s press release encourages drivers to follow posted detour signage and allow extra travel time while crews work. For questions, the release lists the County Transportation main line at (530) 621-5900 (select Option 3 for Engineering) and provides a press contact for media inquiries.
Local residents and businesses that will be directly affected — including the property at the Sierra Door & Supply driveway where the temporary intersection will be located — are being notified through county channels. Officials say the realignment is temporary and will be removed once the permanent signalized intersection and roadway improvements are complete.
