El Dorado Hills, CA – January 4, 2024

In the heart of El Dorado County’s El Dorado Hills Town Center, a unique blend of horticulture, biology, and craft beer craftsmanship has come to life at Boring Rose Brewing Co. The brainchild of husband-and-wife team Billy and Jamie Rose, along with the support of Billy’s parents, Bill and Paula, this family-operated brewery has redefined the concept of a biergarten.

From Plant World to Pints: A Botanical Journey

The journey began with the couple’s roots in the plant world. Billy, a horticulturalist, and Jamie, a biologist, initially found themselves creating living plant walls in the Bay Area. The pandemic served as a catalyst, prompting their return to El Dorado County, where they constructed a 3,000-square-foot greenhouse on family property, intertwining their home and brewing dreams.

“We always aimed to return to where we grew up,” expressed Billy, capturing the sentiment that fueled their endeavor.

Home-Brew Rig Amidst Tropical Greenery: A Unique Start

Amidst the lush greenery of their greenhouse, the Roses transitioned from plant science to the science of brewing. Starting with a modest 5-gallon home-brew system during the pandemic, the couple soon found success servicing local events and festivals. As demand grew, so did their brewing capabilities, upgrading to a system producing 155 gallons at a time, fitting snugly within their greenhouse.

Jamie remarked, “A lot of the science of making beer is actually really similar to plant science.”

Biergarten Ambiance: Where Plants and Pints Unite

The taproom itself is a visual feast, with wooden tables, tap handles, and an abundance of wall-to-wall plants, all cultivated in-house and available for purchase. Offering six core beers, including locally inspired names like Clarksville Kolsch and Latrobe Lager, Boring Rose emphasizes locality not just in their brews but in their entire menu.

Paninis, served on bread sourced from Sacramento-based Grateful Bread, and on-tap wine from Crystal Basin Cellars in Camino, showcase the brewery’s commitment to supporting hyper-local businesses. Plans for the future include the addition of nitro cold brew from World Traveler Coffee Roasters.

A Hyper-Local Hub: Beyond Brews

Billy and Jamie envision their brewery as a community hub, embracing a hyper-local ethos. As they hit their stride, the couple plans to introduce trivia nights, gardening workshops, live music, and perhaps everything but karaoke, as humorously hinted by Billy.

Their beers have already found a home in local eateries like Steve’s Pizza and Selland’s. For enthusiasts looking to savor Boring Rose’s creations at home, 16-ounce, four-packs of their core beers, all meticulously canned by hand, are available.
