PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Businesses across El Dorado County are increasingly adopting environmentally sustainable practices, contributing to both ecological preservation and economic resilience. From wineries to transportation services, these initiatives reflect a county-wide commitment to sustainability.
Wineries Integrate Wellness and Sustainability
Boeger Winery in Placerville has introduced “Woga,” a fusion of yoga and wine tasting set amidst its vineyards. General Manager Rebecca Stoddard notes, “So many people, when they come here, they say it’s just enchanting — like they’re transported to another world” . This initiative not only promotes wellness but also underscores the winery’s dedication to sustainable tourism.

Transportation Shifts to Zero Emissions
El Dorado Transit is progressing toward a fully zero-emission bus fleet by 2040. The transition encompasses operational changes, facility upgrades, and staff training to accommodate new technologies . This move aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality for residents.

The California Green Business Network assists small to medium-sized businesses in implementing sustainable practices. The El Dorado County Air Quality Management District offers various grants and incentives to promote sustainability:
- Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Grant: Provides up to $5,000 per charger for businesses installing EV charging stations.
El Dorado County - FARMER Grant: Offers $2.7 million in funding for agricultural equipment upgrades to reduce emissions.
El Dorado County - Carl Moyer Grant Program: Supports the replacement of older heavy-duty diesel engines with cleaner alternatives.
Educational Institutions Adopt Biomass Energy
Wisewood Energy is collaborating with the Black Oak Mine Unified School District to install a biomass generator system near Golden Sierra High School. The project, supported by a $2.625 million federal request, will provide renewable energy, educational opportunities, and forest management services .
Bioenergy Plant Proposed in Camino
El Dorado County is evaluating the feasibility of a 5-megawatt bioenergy facility at the former Sierra Pacific Industries sawmill in Camino. The plant would convert forest biomass into energy, supporting local energy needs and forest management efforts .
