Cameron Park, CA (Feb 5, 2024) – In a strategic move, Eskaton, a prominent Carmichael-based senior living provider, is currently in talks with potential new tenants for its recently closed senior living property in Cameron Park, El Dorado County. The Eskaton Lodge Cameron Park, located at 3421 Palmer Drive, ceased operations on December 31 of last year.

Eskaton CEO Sheri Peifer explained that the decision to close the facility stemmed from its misalignment with the company’s evolving standards. Acquired by Eskaton in the late 1990s, the property’s size and layout no longer met the contemporary preferences of senior living residents.

Originally established as part of the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy in 1970, the facility housed a camp for boys in collaboration with the renowned golf legend. However, after just three years, the camp closed, and the 50-unit housing complex, initially designed as a dormitory for the boys, was repurposed into the Eskaton Lodge Cameron Park.

Peifer highlighted the outdated configuration of the studios within the facility, stating,

“These days, in residential living, assisted living, people would like choice — studios, one bedroom, two bedrooms.”

Upon the closure of the facility, Eskaton facilitated the relocation of its 27 residents, finding them suitable alternative housing over November and December.

The company is now actively exploring leasing opportunities for the 1.77-acre property. Although Eskaton has not officially listed the building, it has already received several inquiries, including interest from other senior living operators. Notably, discussions are underway regarding a potential lease to the California Department of General Services (DGS).

According to an environmental document prepared for the potential lease, the DGS is considering renting the building for use by Cal Fire, with plans to accommodate approximately 150 firefighters. While Cal Fire representatives declined to provide specific details pending finalization of the lease, Eskaton is still in negotiations with the DGS.

Peifer expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations, stating,

“We hope to have clarity in the next several weeks.”

As Eskaton explores diverse possibilities for its former Cameron Park property, the evolving situation is closely monitored for the finalization of lease agreements and the property’s future utilization.
