El Dorado County (Aug 27, 2024, 2024) – A fire broke out at Fresh Mex, a popular restaurant in Placerville, causing significant damage. At 6:38 p.m. on Sunday, El Dorado County Fire Protection District firefighters swiftly responded to a call for assistance from the Diamond Springs El Dorado Fire Protection District. The emergency? A commercial structure fire in Prospector’s Plaza, located at the intersection of Missouri Flat Road and Plaza Drive.

The blaze broke out in a commercial strip mall housing two restaurants and an auto parts store. The fire ravaged one of the restaurants, completely destroying it. The flames and smoke threatened to spread to the adjacent businesses, but the firefighters, with skill and speed, managed to halt the fire’s advance, sparing the neighboring restaurant and auto parts store from total devastation.

One individual sustained minor injuries in the incident and was promptly transported by ambulance to Marshall Hospital for treatment. Early investigations suggest that an electrical fault may have sparked the fire, though a full inquiry is ongoing.

In addition to the local fire districts, units from CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado, El Dorado Hills Fire Department, and Rescue Fire Department also responded, demonstrating a coordinated effort to contain the damage and prevent further spread.

The community has expressed concern over the loss, as Fresh Mex is a well-loved spot in the area. Local authorities are working to determine the exact cause and assess the full extent of the damage. The restaurant owners have expressed their gratitude to the first responders and the community for their support during this challenging time.
