El Dorado County (Sept 24, 2024) – Earlier this month, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team (HOT), in coordination with the US Forest Service and CalFire Law Enforcement, responded to a community tip regarding an illegal camper in a remote section of the US Forest. Upon investigation, officers discovered an occupied camper and an additional vehicle, both with expired registration. Authorities arranged for the vehicles to be towed, and a search of the camper revealed half an ounce of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded unregistered ghost gun with an extended magazine. One of the individuals, a convicted felon, was arrested alongside another suspect. Both were booked into El Dorado County Jail on multiple felony charges. Community vigilance was critical in the discovery and resolution of this dangerous situation.
