EL DORADO COUNTY SHERIFF’S BLOTTER — JAN. 17, 2026

January 18, 2026
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. – In a harrowing incident on US50 near the 34-mile marker in Kyburz, a 26-year-old woman from West Sacramento, Jennie Gomez, was apprehended on Thursday following a series of collisions allegedly caused by driving under the influence.

Chaotic Chain of Events Unfolds
At 10:25 a.m. on January 4, authorities responded to a report of a hit-and-run involving a westbound 2004 Toyota Corolla and a Dodge Ram truck. The Corolla, driven by Gomez, reportedly sideswiped the truck and fled the scene. A mere three miles later, chaos ensued as the Corolla was involved in a head-on collision with an eastbound Subaru.

Quick Capture After Fleeting Escape
Despite attempting to evade authorities, Gomez’s attempt to flee the scene was short-lived. Law enforcement caught up with her a short distance away from the second collision.

Injuries and Airlift to Sutter Hospital
The driver of the Subaru, unfortunately, bore the brunt of the impact and was airlifted to Sutter Hospital in Roseville with initially reported non-life-threatening injuries. Conversely, the driver of the Dodge Ram truck emerged unscathed from the ordeal.

Serious Charges Laid Against Gomez
California Highway Patrol took swift action, arresting Gomez and subsequently booking her into the El Dorado County Jail in Placerville. The 26-year-old now faces a litany of charges, including one felony count of DUI causing bodily injury, one felony count of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, one misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license, and one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run with property damage. As of now, her bail stands at $82,500.

Road Closure and Aftermath
The repercussions of Gomez’s alleged actions were felt beyond the immediate scene, as US50 was temporarily closed for approximately 1.5 hours. This closure facilitated the transportation of the injured Subaru driver to the hospital and allowed for the clearing of the collision site, marked by damaged vehicles and the aftermath of the chaotic series of events.
As legal proceedings unfold, the community awaits further updates on the condition of the injured driver and the resolution of the charges against Jennie Gomez.
