The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is calling on residents to help bring holiday cheer to local families through its annual “Toys from the Bearcat” community toy drive, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, at the Food Bank of El Dorado County in Cameron Park. The long-running tradition gathers new, unwrapped toys for children across the county, with deputies delivering the donations in the Sheriff’s Office armored rescue vehicle, known as the Bearcat.

For many in El Dorado County, the event has become a symbol of service, gratitude, and generosity. Sheriff Jeff Leikauf said the program reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to building community.

“It’s one of our favorite traditions and a powerful reminder of what community truly is all about,”

Leikauf said in a public statement encouraging residents to participate.

The toy drive runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Food Bank, located at 4550 Business Drive in Cameron Park. Donors are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys suitable for children of all ages. After the event, sheriff’s deputies will distribute the gifts to low-income neighborhoods throughout the county—reaching families who might otherwise go without a holiday celebration this year.

Organizers say the need has grown in recent seasons as housing costs, inflation, and economic pressure affect working families. Community members, local service groups, and small businesses are encouraged to participate or sponsor toy collections in the weeks leading up to the event.

“Your participation will help spread the spirit of giving across our community,” Leikauf added. “Together, we can make a meaningful difference right here in El Dorado County.”

Residents seeking more information may contact the Sheriff’s Office at 530-621-5655 or the Food Bank at 530-621-9950.
