CAMINO, Calif. (April 3, 2025) — The El Dorado County community is set to honor the life and service of Fire Marshal and Division Chief Lucas Shepard, who passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2025, while vacationing with his family in Hawaii. Two public events—a remembrance and a memorial service—are scheduled in the coming week to pay tribute to his dedication and contributions.

Remembrance Service

  • Date and Time: Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Location: The Bell Tower on Historic Main Street (in front of 385 Main Street, Placerville, CA 95667)

This outdoor remembrance is open to the public. Attendees should be aware that partial road closures will occur in the area between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Memorial Service

  • Date and Time: Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 1 p.m.

  • Location: Hills Church (800 White Rock Rd, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762)

This service is also open to the public. Uniformed fire and law enforcement personnel are requested to wear Class A Dress Uniforms with mourning bands. Agencies intending to participate in the “sea of blue” are asked to arrive at 11 a.m. and register their attendance or indicate apparatus presence via the following form: El Dorado Fire District

Captain Jacob Poganski, spokesperson for the El Dorado County Fire Protection District, emphasized the significance of these events:

“Chief Shepard dedicated his career to serving the El Dorado County community with unwavering commitment and professionalism. These services offer an opportunity for the community and his colleagues to honor his legacy.”

Shepard began his career with the El Dorado County Fire Protection District as an apprentice firefighter in 2006. He was promoted to Fire Captain and Prevention Specialist in April 2021, and most recently, in December 2024, he achieved the rank of Fire Marshal and Division Chief.

The community is encouraged to attend these services to pay their respects and support Shepard’s family during this difficult time.
