Celebrate Racing History with George Turnboo and the Legends of Hangtown. George Turnboo and the Turnboo family will reunite with their vintage race car, celebrating decades of racing history at the iconic Hangtown track.

Placerville Speedway, also known as “Hangtown Speedway,” boasts a storied legacy dating back to its inception. Over the decades, it has been the proving ground for numerous racers who have become legends in their own right. One such figure is Gene Gillihan, the 1979 Track Champion in the Super Modified division. Gillihan’s tenure at the track is remembered not just for his on-track successes but also for the camaraderie and sportsmanship he exemplified. And brother Alden “Gilly” Gillihan.

Reflecting on the early days of racing, Gillihan recalls the simplicity and passion that defined the sport.

“Racing was so less expensive then; it was pretty common for brothers to race together. It was a lot of fun, but it was amazing we never burned up in those kinds of clothes; we were our mother’s biggest nightmare,”

he shared, highlighting the rudimentary safety gear of the era.

The upcoming Legends Weekend not only offers high-octane racing but also serves as a reunion for past racers and a tribute to the history that has shaped Placerville Speedway. Fans will have the opportunity to connect with former drivers, hear their stories, and gain a deeper appreciation for the sport’s local heritage.

Gates for the event will open at 4:00 PM, with racing action commencing shortly thereafter. Tickets are available for purchase at the gate or online through the Placerville Speedway’s official website. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to fully immerse themselves in the festivities and honor the legends who have paved the way for today’s racing stars.

For more information on the event schedule, ticket pricing, and other inquiries, please visit the Placerville Speedway’s official website or contact their ticketing office directly.

Join the community in celebrating a legacy of speed, skill, and sportsmanship at the 2025 Legends Weekend—a testament to the enduring spirit of racing in El Dorado County.
