PLACERVILLE, Calif.  — As the sun sets over the Sierra Nevada, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Placerville office reflects on its commitment to safeguarding some of the state’s most picturesque yet challenging roadways. Highway 50, a vital corridor connecting Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe, often presents unique challenges, especially during winter months. In a recent incident near Twin Bridges, a man was seriously injured while fixing tire chains when a teenage driver lost control of their vehicle. The victim’s wife and 10-year-old son sustained minor injuries. Eastbound Highway 50 was temporarily closed for approximately an hour as emergency crews responded to the scene .

Beyond their patrol duties, CHP Placerville actively engages with the community through programs like “Every 15 Minutes,” which educates high school students about the dangers of impaired driving. Recently, the program was conducted at Golden Sierra High School in Garden Valley, emphasizing the department’s commitment to proactive community outreach .​
