El Dorado (July 10, 2024) – El Dorado County is set to celebrate the grand opening of its first official dog park on Sunday, July 14th, at the Historical Railroad Park in El Dorado. The event will commence at 9:00 a.m.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the long-envisioned opening of this beautiful facility for our dog-loving residents and their pets,” said Supervisor Wendy Thomas, whose district includes the new park.
The new dog park is designed to cater to the needs of both dogs and their owners. It includes separate areas for small dogs (under 30 pounds) and large dogs (over 30 pounds), a shaded bench area, a doggie waste bag station, and soon, a water fountain with a dog bowl. The park is part of a larger recreational space that features a children’s playground, access to the El Dorado Trail, and the El Dorado Western Railroad Foundation, which operates an excursion railroad program on Sundays at the El Dorado Station.
The Grand Opening event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, remarks by county officials and community members, informational booths, and a pet adoption event, depending on Animal Services staffing availability. Community groups such as Friends of El Dorado Trail will also have booths, and the Western Railroad excursion train will be running.
The project is funded by Prop 68, the State of California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access for All Act of 2018.
Residents are invited to join in the celebration and bring their furry friends to enjoy the new park. This event marks a significant milestone for El Dorado County, providing a dedicated space for dogs to play and socialize in a safe and welcoming environment.
