Placerville Proclaims April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month

Placerville Proclaims April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month

​PLACERVILLE, Calif. — The City Council of Placerville has officially proclaimed April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month, underscoring the community’s commitment to safeguarding its youngest members. This initiative aligns with national and state efforts to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect.​

In 2024, El Dorado County Child Welfare Services received 519 reports of child abuse or neglect associated with Placerville addresses. Of these, 40 referrals were substantiated, confirming that at least 64 children in the city experienced abuse or neglect.​

The El Dorado County Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) plays a pivotal role in advocating for prevention strategies, education, and resources to support families. Residents are encouraged to wear blue on Fridays throughout April to show solidarity with child abuse prevention efforts. Additionally, the community is invited to attend the Memorial Flag Raising Event on April 25 at 10:00 a.m. to honor young lives lost to abuse and neglect.​

Mayor Michael Saragosa emphasized the collective responsibility in addressing this issue, stating,

“By working together, we can build a community where every child is valued, supported, and protected.”​

This proclamation reflects Placerville’s dedication to fostering a safe and nurturing environment for all children, recognizing that child abuse prevention is a shared community responsibility.
