PLACERVILLE, Calif. – June 5, 2025 — The Boys & Girls Club of El Dorado County Western Slope is making a decisive move toward bolstering local youth athletics with plans for a new multi-sport complex near Placerville. Slated to begin construction in early 2026, the public-private partnership will convert an underutilized parcel of land into a vibrant community athletic hub.

The project, which has been in development for over a year, brings together local government agencies, nonprofits, and private donors in a collaborative effort. The facility will feature regulation-size soccer fields, a basketball pavilion, and a multipurpose event space designed to serve youth and families across the western slope.

“We’re not just building a sports complex—we’re building opportunity,” said Executive Director Sean McCartney of the Boys & Girls Club. “This facility will be a safe place where young people can grow through teamwork, competition, and mentorship.”

The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors has expressed support for the initiative, citing both the long-standing need for youth recreation infrastructure and the value of civic partnerships.

“Our children deserve a place where they can be active and feel supported,” said District 2 Supervisor George Turnboo. “This project helps fill a major gap.”

While the final location has not yet been formally disclosed pending land use approval, early reports suggest a site near Missouri Flat Road is under consideration. Environmental reviews and traffic impact studies are underway. Officials have also confirmed that the project will align with the county’s Parks and Trails Master Plan.

Funding sources include a combination of Measure H tax revenues, philanthropic donations, and in-kind contributions from contractors and community partners. A capital campaign launched earlier this spring has already secured more than $1.5 million toward the projected $4 million cost.

The sports complex will be open not only to Boys & Girls Club members but also to local schools and adult leagues, with public access on designated days. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 and conclude by early 2027, pending regulatory approval and weather conditions.
