Strategic Planning for Transit Improvements

The El Dorado County Transportation Commission (EDCTC) and El Dorado Transit have released the 2024 Short-Range Transit Plan Update, outlining initiatives to improve service efficiency and accessibility over the next five years. Key proposals include optimizing existing routes, expanding service hours, and integrating zero-emission buses into the fleet.

Complementing this, the 2019 Western El Dorado County Short- and Long-Range Transit Plan provides a 25-year vision, focusing on long-term infrastructure investments and service expansions to meet anticipated growth and demand.

Enhancements to Commuter Services

In response to increasing commuter needs, El Dorado Transit expanded its Sacramento Commuter service in May 2024, adding a new route and extending all routes to include a stop at the May Lee State Office Complex. This expansion aims to provide more convenient options for residents traveling to Sacramento for work.
Focus on Sustainability and Accessibility
The transit plans emphasize sustainability, with initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the adoption of battery-electric buses and the promotion of active transportation modes. Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance accessibility for seniors and individuals with disabilities, ensuring equitable transit options across the county.

Community Engagement and Future Outlook

EDCTC is actively seeking community input to inform its Next Generation Transportation Investments Strategy, which will guide the development of the 2025-2045 Regional Transportation Plan. Residents are encouraged to participate in public workshops and provide feedback to shape the future of transportation in El Dorado County.

For more information on transit plans and to participate in upcoming workshops, visit EDCTC’s Transit Planning page.
