Fehr was driving a Penske rental box truck southbound on Latrobe Road in El Dorado County when the vehicle veered off course and collided with a barbed wire fence. The crash caused a hole in the truck’s cargo box, through which several husky mix dogs escaped. According to the CHP, Fehr was transporting the dogs from his Nevada County rescue to another facility in Mokelumne Hill.

Despite several blown tires and dogs seen along the road, Fehr allegedly continued driving, even running a stop sign before merging onto Highway 16. Witnesses reported seeing a dog ejected from the truck’s cargo area and flagged Fehr down, leading to CHP involvement.

CHP officers suspect Fehr was under the influence of alcohol and controlled substances. He was arrested and held on $5,000 bail. Animal control officers from El Dorado and Amador counties secured most of the dogs, although three remain unaccounted for. Fortunately, none of the dogs are believed to have been hit by other vehicles.
