Youth-Led Initiative: Making a Difference

Hands4Hope Community Engagement Ambassadors, comprising middle and high school students, collaborated with nine local elementary schools and 15 businesses to set up collection bins for new and gently used warm clothing items. The result of their efforts and additional direct donations was a staggering 5,827 items, with an estimated value exceeding $54,500.

Generosity Beyond Measure: Community Support

One exceptional donor, Judy, hand-knitted an astounding 300 beanie hats for the cause, emphasizing the pivotal role young people play in making the world a better place. Her heartfelt message reflects the multigenerational impact of community-driven initiatives.

Blanket Making Party and More: Crafting Warmth

Hands4Hope hosted its annual Blanket Making Party, resulting in 123 no-sew fleece blankets. Participants, both in on-campus clubs and from the community, came together to contribute to the handmade warmth distributed during the Winter Boutique.

New Location, Same Heart: A Move to Cameron Park

After years in El Dorado Hills, the Winter Boutique distribution facility found a new home in an office space generously donated by Aborn Powers in Cameron Park. The change aimed to provide a more convenient location for program beneficiaries.

Youth Leaders at the Helm: Planning and Execution

A dedicated Winter Boutique Committee, spearheaded by youth leaders like Gabby Dailey, Chloe Deiss, Taylor Milbrath, Tania Thomas, and Addison Hunt, meticulously planned and coordinated every aspect of the space. From layout to logistics, these young leaders demonstrated organizational prowess beyond their years.

Community Engagement in Action: Volunteers and Events

Throughout November, volunteers participated in 21 events, sorting and counting clothing items and infusing the space with festive decorations. The community’s collective effort, including Sierra Laundry’s donation of laundry services, played a pivotal role in the success of the Winter Boutique.

Impactful Distribution: Touching 741 Lives

During the six days the Winter Boutique opened in December, 148 referred families, totaling 741 individuals, had the opportunity to “shop” for warm clothing and essential items. The remaining items were distributed to partner agencies in Sacramento and El Dorado Counties, extending the reach and impact of this youth-driven effort.

Gratitude and Reflection: A Junior’s Perspective

Gabby Dailey, a junior at Oak Ridge High School and Committee Chair, expressed her initial nervousness but quickly realized the project’s immense positive impact. She highlighted the joy of witnessing grateful families, community unity, and the friendships forged during the committee’s journey.
