El Dorado County (April 23, 2024) – Placerville Speedway Primed for the 21st Tribute to Al Hinds
Placerville Speedway is revving its engines for a heartfelt homage this Saturday, April 27th, as the rescheduled Tribute to Al Hinds kicks off the Thompson’s Winged 360 Sprint Car season. Following a weather-induced delay, the event promises a high-octane $2,500-to-win feature, honoring the memory of Al Hinds, an esteemed figure in the local racing community.
Hinds, an integral part of Placerville’s racing history, served as the track’s second promoter alongside Richard Hirst. Their stewardship began in 1968, breathing new life into the facility originally founded by Bruno Romani. Beyond the confines of the racetrack, Hinds, a beloved Placerville resident, was renowned for his passion for auto racing and dedication to nurturing emerging talent within the sport.
Former track announcer and publicist Bill Sullivan eloquently encapsulates Hinds’ enduring legacy, remarking, “Even in his final years, he continued to help young drivers, entertain fans, and most importantly, he spent a great deal of time talking to and mentoring those that helped in speedway operations.”
The Tribute to Al Hinds, inaugurated in 2004, stands as a testament to his indelible impact on Placerville Speedway. Notable past victors include Roger Crockett and Andy Forsberg, the latter clinching his third triumph in the event last season, coinciding with his monumental 200th career victory.
In addition to the marquee Sprint Car feature, the event boasts a diverse lineup of divisions, including the Mountain Democrat Ltd. Late Models, Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks, and the visiting Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association. The racing action promises thrills aplenty on the quarter-mile clay oval.
For racing enthusiasts eager to witness the adrenaline-fueled spectacle firsthand, tickets are available online or at the gate on race day. Grandstand seating offers a vibrant atmosphere, complemented by Happy Hour specials and live music. Pit passes grant access to an expanded viewing area, ensuring fans catch every heart-pounding moment.
For those unable to attend in person, CaliDirt.TV provides comprehensive coverage of every Placerville Speedway point race, delivering live streams for enthusiasts near and far.
As anticipation builds for the 21st Tribute to Al Hinds, Placerville Speedway stands as a beacon of motorsport heritage, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and competition that defines this beloved racing community.
