PLACERVILLE, Calif. (Jan. 6, 2026) — The El Dorado County Fire Protection District is investigating the cause of a vehicle fire that engulfed a passenger car in Placerville late Monday morning, officials said.
Just before noon, firefighters were dispatched to the 1200 block of Broadway, where a passenger vehicle was reported on fire in front of a local business. Engine 25, Medic 25 and Division 7706 responded to the scene and quickly brought the fire under control.
Fire officials said the vehicle was unoccupied at the time flames broke out. Before crews arrived, a bystander took swift action, working with the vehicle’s owner to retrieve the keys and place the car in neutral, allowing it to be pushed away from the building and reducing the risk of the fire spreading.
“That quick thinking helped prevent what could have become a structure fire,” an El Dorado County Fire Protection District spokesperson said in a statement. “Our crews were able to contain the fire rapidly once on scene.”
No injuries were reported, and no damage to nearby structures was noted, fire officials said. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
The incident caused only minor, temporary disruption along Broadway as firefighters secured the scene and ensured there were no lingering hazards.
