POLLOCK PINES, Calif. — A 70-year-old woman riding a mobility scooter was killed Wednesday night after she was struck by a vehicle in El Dorado County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities have not announced whether alcohol, drugs, speed, or visibility conditions played a role in the collision.

CHP said the crash happened before 9 p.m. along the Pony Express Trail by the Safeway in Pollock Pines.

“The crash remains under investigation,” CHP officials said in a preliminary statement released following the incident.

The woman’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Division.

Fatal crashes involving mobility scooters remain relatively uncommon but present unique safety concerns on roadways, especially during nighttime hours when visibility can be reduced. Mobility scooters are frequently used along shoulders, sidewalks, and crossings throughout rural and suburban communities in El Dorado County.

The collision marks another fatal traffic incident in the region as local and state authorities continue emphasizing roadway awareness for both drivers and vulnerable roadway users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and mobility device operators.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have information relevant to the investigation is encouraged to contact the  California Highway Patrol Placerville Area Office.
