GEORGETOWN, Calif. — Two people remain hospitalized after a shooting Sunday afternoon in Georgetown that authorities say escalated into a series of violent felony crimes, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at approximately 2 p.m. April 19 to the 3000 block of South Street following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they located two adult victims suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both were transported to area hospitals for emergency treatment.

As of April 21, both victims were listed in stable condition, officials confirmed.

“This remains an active investigation, but we are grateful both victims are now in stable condition,” the sheriff’s office said in a public statement.

Suspect Identified and Arrested

Authorities identified the suspect as Bryce Richard Stevens, 35, of Georgetown. He was taken into custody shortly after the incident and booked into the El Dorado County Jail in Placerville.

According to jail records, Stevens is being held on $370,000 bail and faces multiple felony charges, including:

  • Two counts of attempted murder
  • Kidnapping and false imprisonment
  • Burglary and grand theft auto
  • Possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person

Booking records show Stevens was arrested at approximately 2:33 p.m. near the scene on South Street.

Criminal History and Ongoing Investigation

Investigators confirmed Stevens has a prior felony conviction for burglary in El Dorado County, which legally prohibited him from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The sequence of events leading up to the shooting, including the alleged kidnapping and burglary components, has not yet been fully disclosed. Detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims, pending further investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
