PLACERVILLE, Calif. — August 2, 2025

On Friday, August 8, communities across El Dorado County will come together for National Night Out, a nationwide campaign designed to promote community engagement, crime prevention, and stronger ties between residents and first responders. The annual event, celebrated in cities and towns throughout the United States, invites families and neighbors to spend an evening outdoors with local law enforcement, fire personnel, and public safety partners.

Events will be held in several El Dorado County locations, including:

  • Placerville – Main Street near the Bell Tower, 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  • Cameron Park – Christa McAuliffe Park, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  • El Dorado Hills – Town Center, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

  • South Lake Tahoe – Lakeview Commons, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Each location will feature free family-friendly activities such as bounce houses, K-9 demonstrations, safety education booths, food trucks, and opportunities to meet local deputies and firefighters.

“This event gives our community the opportunity to connect in a positive environment, face to face, and helps foster the relationships that make our neighborhoods stronger and safer,” said El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Leikauf. “We look forward to meeting residents from every corner of the county.”

National Night Out began in 1984 and is held annually in August, with participation from over 16,000 communities nationwide. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, the event aims to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime programs, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and watching out for each other.

Local agencies such as the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, CAL FIRE, CHP, and city police departments encourage residents of all ages to stop by and say hello. Whether it’s your first National Night Out or your tenth, the evening promises community connection and goodwill.
