FOLSOM LAKE, Calif. By Cris Alarcon, InEDC Writer. (March 29, 2025) — On Saturday evening, the El Dorado County community convened at Beals Point State Park to commemorate the life of Felicity Athena Tengco Sagun, a 12-year-old girl from El Dorado Hills who tragically lost her life in a jet ski accident one year ago. The “5K Forever Sunset Run,” organized by Felicity’s family, aimed to raise awareness about water safety and prevent future tragedies.

The event began at 5:30 p.m., featuring educational sessions on water safety, followed by the 5K run just before sunset. While attendance was free, participants were required to pay the standard admission fee for Beals Point State Park.

Felicity’s family organized the event to honor her memory and educate the community on water safety. According to family friend Churilo, “I don’t think you can ever get over it, so they’re trying to turn it into a positive experience.”

The 5K Forever Sunset Run attracted participants from across the region, all united in support of the Sagun family and the cause of water safety. The event also featured live music and informational booths, creating a community atmosphere dedicated to remembrance and education.

Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, located at the base of the Sierra foothills, offers various recreational opportunities, including hiking, biking, and boating. The park’s diverse amenities made it a fitting location for the event, emphasizing the importance of safety in all water-related activities.

As the sun set over Folsom Lake, participants reflected on Felicity’s enduring legacy and the critical importance of water safety. The Sagun family’s dedication to turning their personal tragedy into a community-wide initiative serves as a poignant reminder of the power of collective action in preventing future accidents.
