Hangtown 100 headlines Placerville Speedway season opener — rain won’t stop the show (for now)

PLACERVILLE, Calif. — The Hangtown 100 returns to Placerville Speedway this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14–15, as the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Championship and the BCRA Wingless Lightning Sprints close out the track’s 60th anniversary season. The two-night event features stacked entry lists — including Elk Grove native and co-promoter Kyle Larson — and a Saturday 100-lap main event that traditionally decides the Hangtown champion.

Race organizers say they are monitoring a soggy forecast but are proceeding as scheduled. If Friday is washed out, ticket holders will be refunded; reserved Friday seats do not automatically roll to Saturday, and single-night tickets will not be honored for the other night. Fans are urged to follow Placerville Speedway’s social channels and the official Hangtown 100 site for any live updates.

Track promoter Scott Russell called the Hangtown 100

“a marquee event to close out the season,” and said the USAC national midgets “have put on some breathtaking shows here the last several years.” He added that organizers hope “the fans will come out and support two great nights of racing this Friday and Saturday.”

The Hangtown weekend opens Friday with preliminary features and Lightning Sprint action, then culminates Saturday with the traditional 100-lap headliner for the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets. The USAC California swing gets under way at Placerville, with Cannon McIntosh carrying the national point lead into the Golden State events and a who’s-who of midget specialists — Justin Grant, Kevin Thomas Jr., Logan Seavey and others — expected to contend.

Larson — a two-time Hangtown winner who took the 2019 and 2023 editions and is listed as a co-promoter — will compete again, drawing extra attention and regional interest as he chases a third Hangtown victory. Local-to-national names who have taken Placerville trophies in recent seasons — Buddy Kofoid, Carson Macedo and others — are also penciled in on entry lists.

Tickets remain on sale through EventSprout and at the gate on race days; two-night packages and single-night reserved seating are both offered. Pit passes will be available (via PitPay for some offerings), and the pit gate opens at noon each day with front gates opening at 4 p.m.; drivers’ meetings and on-track activity start shortly thereafter. For online buyers whose event is canceled, EventSprout processes refunds — generally within two weeks — while season-ticket rules differ, so patrons should review the ticket confirmation or EventSprout’s contact page.

Local context: Placerville Speedway sits on the El Dorado County Fairgrounds at 100 Placerville Drive and has been the region’s quarter-mile red-clay showcase for decades. The Hangtown 100 routinely draws touring teams and California favorites, and the outcome often reverberates through short-track circles into the winter off-season.
