PLACERVILLE, Calif. — A long-dormant tradition returns to life this spring as the El Dorado County Historical Society prepares to open the doors of one of the քաղաքի’s most storied neighborhoods for a rare public tour.

Scheduled for Saturday, April 18, the 2026 Historic Home Tour will, for the first time in four decades, spotlight the Coloma-Spring Street Historic District in Placerville. The self-guided event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, offering visitors an immersive walk through approximately 170 years of regional history.

Organizers say the tour will feature 11 preserved properties, several of which have never before been open to the public. The homes reflect a broad architectural spectrum—from post-Gold Rush residences dating to 1859 to early 20th-century Spanish Colonial Revival designs—illustrating the evolution of Placerville’s built environment.

“This is more than a home tour; it’s a living timeline of Placerville,” the historical society said in a public announcement. “Each structure tells a story about the մարդիկ who shaped this community.”

Among the featured stops is the Nicholas and Anna Fox House, widely recognized through its depiction in Victorian Christmas II by Thomas Kinkade. Visitors will also be able to enter the historic Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, noted for its Gothic-style sanctuary, Civil War-era stained glass, and original wooden pews.

Additional highlights include the Albert Shafsky House, restored with careful attention to period authenticity, and the renovated home of longtime Placerville merchant Max Baird, offering insight into local commercial and residential life across generations.

Tickets are priced at $30 for general admission and $25 for EDCHS members. Proceeds will directly support the Fountain & Tallman Museum, along with ongoing preservation, research, and educational programming throughout El Dorado County.

With heightened interest driven by the district’s 40-year absence from the tour rotation, organizers report strong early ticket sales and encourage advance purchase through the society’s official website.

The event also coincides with renewed local interest in heritage tourism and historic preservation, as communities across the region seek to balance growth with conservation of cultural assets.
